Cooking on Green Mountain grills is a whole new experience

If you have mastered the art of grilling on a natural gas grill but long for the taste of an old style charcoal grill, a pellet grill smoker by Green Mountain Grills is the perfect solution. Pellet grills burn compressed wood and impart a smoky flavor on whatever you are cooking. Easy to operate with computerized logic control and Wi-Fi capability they provide more reliable results than a charcoal grill. With these pellet grills you have the ability to create cooking programs. You can slow cook a brisket or turkey for several hours at temperature set points you create in your food profile.

Green Mountain grills are not just for long slow cooking. You can also roast, bake, smoke, simmer, grill, barbeque and sear at the touch of a button. The operation of a pellet grill is amazingly simple considering the mouth-watering results it produces. A hopper on the side of the grill is filled with various types of hardwood pellets. A motor turns an auger which feeds pellets into a firebox, there a hot rod automatically lights the pellets and a combustion fan keeps them burning. A fan inside the hopper maintains positive pressure which prevents burn back into the auger tube. A sensor mounted inside the grill sends data to the on board computer ten times every second, and the controller adjusts the air and pellet flow to maintain the temperature you set.

That’s how it works but what is it like to use one of the Green Mountain grills ? Simple, put pellets in the hopper, set the temperature, close the lid and within 10 minutes you are cooking. Done cooking ?, turn the grill off and it goes through a cooling and cleaning shut down period of 15 minutes.

Time to Experiment?

Experimentation is the key to finding the perfect way you like to cook food on a pellet grill, a long low temperature cook will yield food with a very distinct smoky flavor while a shorter high temperature cook will give just a hint of smoky flavor. A mesquite pellet mix with give a very earthy flavor while a fruitwood mix, which is perfect for chicken and fish, gives a light sweet smoky flavor. The combinations of the type of pellets you use and the temperature that you grill at give almost limitless possibilities.

Don’t want to experiment ?. Go with the tried and true mesquite and hickory blends for red meat and the fruitwood blends for white meat. It is worthwhile to spend a bit of time understanding the composition of the pellets you are intending to use.

All pellets made for pellet grills are food safe but that is where the similarity ends. Many brands use Oak or Ash and “flavor” the pellets with oil that provides flavor. Green Mountain pellets use the actual, apple, peach etc. wood and do not add oil to flavor the pellets. Both types of pellets will give you similar results. If you want to avoid pellets that have additives, you will need to spend a bit of time researching what to purchase.
